Reflexology

Reflexology or zone therapy is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy based on the believe that there are different points (reflex areas) on feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears that correspond with different areas on the body; following pressure points principles similar to those use on acupressure and acupuncture.
Reflexology practice dates back to thousand years, with remains on the Egypt, Chinese and Indian ancient civilisations. Reflexology was introduced to the West in the 1920's by Dr. William Fitzgerald,an American ear, nose and throat specialist, developed "Zone therapy" based on the relation of reflex areas on feet and hands with specific areas and organs of the body within the same zone. The Zone therapy was developed further more in the 1930's by Eunice Ingham, who defined the form of reflexology as we know it nowadays. Reflexology was introduced in England in the 1960's by one of the Eunice Ingham's students, Doreen Bayly. In 1978 Doreen Bayly founded the first school of reflexology in UK. Since then, reflexology has been gaining popularity and it's even offer by the NHS in some hospitals. Reflexology practitioners aim to enhance body's self-healing capability and its ability to re-balance itself.
